The Dark Sky team announced that the app would no longer be available for Android users after July 1, 2020. That's an indication for us to look for worthy Dark Sky alternatives for Android.

It's not easy to move to a new app overnight, especially knowing how amazing Dark Sky app is. The app will be available for download until July 1, 2020, for Android and WearOS. Post that, it will just vanish and will be unusable for those who already have it.

Windy is a seriously powerful weather app, and it is more suitable for sailors, pilots, paragliders, and others. Regular folks who love their weather or live in areas that are prone to twisters, cyclones, or tsunamis should also install it. Windy will show you a world map with the real-time wind, rain, temperature, waves, clouds, and air quality in an interactive map.

Once you have selected a metric, you can tap anywhere on the world map to know more details. For example, wind direction, speed, and so on. Scroll the bottom bar to know forecasts for the next few hours to days and even weeks.

The developer says there are over 40 weather maps to explore, which is too much for me, to be honest. The ozone layer, active fires, or webcams anyone? Then there are points of interest like popular destinations and airports that are listed separately.

Windy is a powerful, powerful weather app with all kinds of data available at your fingertips. What's even more amazing is that the UI is not at all cluttered, and the app is easy to use and navigate. It is also free and is supported by donations.

As awesome as Windy is, it can be a little too much for some users. Plus, it lacks some simple features like daily notifications. Today Weather is another Dark Sky alternative with a beautiful layout and accurate data. There is plenty of useful info available, and the graphics are nice to look at.

There is also a radar section if that's your thing, but it covers far fewer data points than what we saw with Windy. I would say less is more here as not everyone needs that much anyway.

4. The Weather Channel

The Weather Channel is one of the most popular and trusted names in the niche. There are plenty of apps that show weather, send alerts and whatnot, but what about the news? What about videos? The Weather Channel covers that too, and it can be very informative or fun.

You can set up alerts for different government alerts, rains, breaking news, snow, storms, and so on. You can view past and future conditions under the radar tab.

The Weather Channel is completely free and ad-supported. The data is reliable and used by many other weather apps, but the UI itself is rather bland and lacks imagination.

My favorite weather app, CARROT brings you the weather, but with a spiteful twist.

Cast as a human-hating artificial intelligence, with such comments as 'I hope you get a sunburn,' and 'Your heating bill is going to bankrupt you,' you'll always get a laugh out of your CARROT weather report. Plus, the more you use CARROT Weather, the more you will unlock secret locations, like Mount Doom and a certain Outer Rim Moisture Farm.

On top of being funny, CARROT brings you accurate weather updated regularly; you can check a plethora of other information like wind speed, humidity, UV index, pressure, dew, point, and more.

If you have a sense of humor about all this weather talk, CARROT will make you smile (and laugh a lot).

Dark Sky

Dark Sky made a name for itself in the weather app category for its precise accuracy at predicting weather changes up-to-the-minute. The app was built using forecast.io and provides a detailed 24-hour outlook, as well as a 7-day forecast. The precipitation and temperature global map lets you drag your finger through time to see when storms will arrive or how much time you have until the day turns hot. If there is any rain, snow or storm headed your way; Dark Sky will let you know how soon it will arrive.

Dark Sky also has a great Apple Watch complication. Dark Sky's tiny complication just shows the current temperature, but you can tap it, of course, to quickly get into the app.

If you like knowing exactly how to dress when you walk out of the door at any time of the day, Dark Sky will let you know how soon you'll need that umbrella.

NOAA Radar Pro – Weather Alerts & Forecast

If you live in an area that's prone to natural weather disasters like typhoons or hurricanes, NOAA Radar Pro is probably more useful to you than a standard weather app.

This will show you the radar around your location (or any location your search for) right on your wrist. You can always see the storms that are coming and get a sense of just how bad they will be. Plus, NOAA Radar Pro will also send you alerts when extreme weather is headed your way, even included forest fires that are being tracked.

Of course, just like any weather app, you can also access the temperature, 7-day forecast, and other crucial day-to-day weather conditions. If you don't want to spend the five bucks, you can also try out their free version.

If you want complete and comprehensive weather forecasts, Weather Underground is a great option.

With Weather Underground, you'll get the basics, like temperature and feels like temperature, along with the highs and lows for the day. But you also have a 24-hour forecast complete with a precipitation graph, which comes in handy for those in rain-prone areas. There are even radar maps on the Apple Watch app, and you can check the hourly forecast or even the next 10 days.

There's also the option to submit user data if you notice that the forecast isn't accurate right now. This crowd control option means you should be getting more accurate forecasts based on what other users submit in the area.
